Data Portal

The Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB) administers the national program to accredit governmental public health departments at the state, local, tribal, and territorial level. PHAB has compiled a unique dataset of peer-reviewed assessments of health department capacity.

We partnered to develop a web-based data visualization tool that enables health departments and the public to access this information as an aggregated visualization, conceptualized for easy and intuitive use. The product was launched in January 2020 and we continue to provide support and maintenance services.

Public Health Mission

The mission of the Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB) is to improve and protect the health of the public by advancing and transforming the quality and performance of governmental public health agencies in the US and abroad.

Through a rigorous, peer-reviewed process, health departments are assessed on their conformity with consensus standards. This data portal allows the public health community to explore and visualize these aggregate data on health department capacity.

Health Snapshot & Benchmarks

People can get a snapshot of health department capacity by specific measures or by theme, and can explore differences in health department characteristics. Accredited agencies can benchmark their capacity against others, and information about the public health outcomes that health departments are tracking is also available.

Visualize Performance

We designed the portal to offer tools that people and health departments can use to self-evaluate and understand performance, and offer comparisons on a variety of factors. Data visualizations and filters are available for people to gain immediate access to key characteristics of accredited health departments and their performance on the measures.

Simplifying Assessments

With an account login, accredited health departments can compare their assessments to the assessments of others. People are able to dive deeper info specific public health issues and understand how they are being prioritized at a local, regional and national level across a variety of assessment factors.
